Vignone: Approx. 1,200 inhabitants. The village of Vignone is situated 449 meters above sea level on the sunny slope of Verbania, about 4 km from the lake. An extensive network of walking and hiking trails covers the area, and a rich variety of cultural, leisure, and sports activities ensures there's never a dull moment. Nearby are the renowned holiday resorts of Intra and Pallanza: Intra is known for its market and the wonderfully beautiful old town. From Intra, you can also take the car ferry across to the other side of the lake to Laveno. Pallanza has Roman origins and offers a very beautiful long lakeside promenade with inviting restaurants, cafés, and shops. The "Villa Taranto" botanical gardens are spread over a 20-hectare area with more than 20,000 plant species, including the rarest from all continents. The internationally renowned holiday resorts or areas such as Ascona, Locarno, Baveno, and Stresa, the Borromean Islands, Lake Mergozzo, and Lake Orta are all within a 30-minute drive.
