Baveno (approx. 5,000 inhabitants) is located opposite the Borromean Islands, in an area that is mountainous and at the same time resembles the Italian Riviera. Baveno is an internationally renowned holiday resort, as seen by the beautiful villas - many from the 19th century - including Villa Henfrey (today Villa Branca), which housed Queen Victoria of England, and Villa Fedora, which belonged to the composer Umberto Giordano. The shipping line in Baveno is the starting point for many excursion destinations on Lake Maggiore. Also noteworthy is the magnificent lakeside promenade with inviting restaurants, cafés, bars, and shops. 3 km away is the charming village of Feriolo with its beautiful bay. Once a fishing and stonecutting village, Feriolo is now a destination for nature lovers. Just 4 km from Baveno is the also internationally famous holiday resort Stresa (approx. 5,000 inhabitants) in a scenic location opposite the Borromean Islands. Many beautiful villas adorn Stresa. Along the promenade, there are several hotels built in Art Nouveau style. Cable car to Mottarone (1,491 m above sea level), lido, water sports, and tennis. Three golf courses are in the immediate vicinity.
