The town of Kappeln, which is known from the ZDF series 'Der Landarzt', offers numerous sights, such as the St. Nikolai Church, the Amanda windmill or the famous Kappeln herring fence.
This exists since the 15th century and is nowadays the only one in the whole of Germany and Europe. It is definitely worth a visit both for fishing enthusiasts and for the whole family, especially on Ascension weekend, when the Kappeln Herring Days are celebrated in honor of the fence!
