The village - Mühlbach am Hochkönig
The accessibility of the Höchkönig region and in particular the town of Mühlbach is excellent. Mühlbach is only 10 minutes away from the Salzburg motorway and the Bischofshofen train station (connected to the international train network). Salzburg Airport can be reached in 45 minutes.
The holiday chalet is located directly at the top of the village of Mühlbach am Hochkönig. The center can be reached on foot via a serpentine road in about 10 minutes. The city center can be reached in 2 minutes by car.
In the village itself there is a spacious Spar supermarket. It is open on weekdays from 07:30 - 12:30 and 14:30 - 18:00. On Saturdays the supermarket is only open in the morning. The supermarket is closed on Sundays.
For a larger selection of food, restaurants and other things you can visit the town of Bischofshofen, which is about 15 minutes away by car. There you will find a Billa Plus, Spar, Lidl, Hofer, Xxxlutz and Obi market.
In the center of the village there is a nice bakery (open from 7am), an ATM and the local tourist office. Enjoy regional dishes and drinks in the restaurants that are in the immediate vicinity of the holiday chalet. There is also take away food.
=== Winter Season ===
Mühlbach am Hochkönig is part of the Hochkönig ski area. The ski area begins at Maria Alm and then runs along the Hochkönig mountain range to Mühlbach am Hochkönig.
The area has a variety of blue, red and black ski slopes, but also snow and fun parks for children and very nice practice areas for real beginners.
The area is also known for the King's Tour. This is a ski tour from Mühlbach to Maria Alm and back. On the way you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Hochkönig and the Steinernes Meer (lake).
The Hochkönig area is also known for its snow reliability in combination with the 3000 meter high Hochkönig mountain range, which means that it is often possible to ski already in December.
The nearest valley station is the Karbachalmbahn and is approx. 5 minutes by car from the chalet. In combination with your ski pass, you can also take the free ski bus to the valley station. The bus stop is 50 meters from the chalet, almost at ground level. The valley ski slope is 1.4 km from the chalet.
Further up the mountain is the Hochkeil ski area, this area is very child-friendly and suitable for beginners. Among other things, there are very nice practice areas and nice restaurants.
You can buy the ski passes for the ski area in advance online or on site at the valley station. The prices take into account families with children.
In short, a really affordable and fun family destination that never seems to get very crowded on the slopes, even in high season.
=== Summer Season ===
Both in summer and in winter Mühlbach is an ideal starting point for your vacation. For mountain bikers, golfers, hikers, glacier skiers, paragliders, horse riders and nature lovers there are many options in the immediate vicinity.
You will receive the Hochkönig Card upon arrival. With the Hochkönig Card, which you will receive during your stay, you can use the summer mountain cable karts, the hiking bus, the swimming pools and museums in the Hochkönig region free of charge. You can find more information about the Hochkönig Card on the Hochkönig tourism website.
