Ossenzijl is characterised by the landscape of the Weerribben: a large variety of water, reed lands, hay meadows and swamp forests. In this area, you can spot many interesting animal species such as otters. The surrounding area has many unique (water) villages. Some examples are Blokzijl, Giethoorn, Oldemarkt and Kalenberg. We highly recommend exploring the area by boat! Visit Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus, De Orchideeën Hoeve or Klimbos Avontuurlijk Paasloo for a wonderful outing. Would you rather spend a day shopping in a bigger city? Then head to nearby Meppel or Heereveen, where you will also find plenty of restaurants, cafés and terraces.
