In Hillesheim "Crime scene hiking tours" are offered. The small town is one of the venues of the crime scene Festival "Tatort Eifel", too. Enjoy the cabaret and music entertainment programme of "Das kleine Landcafé" in Kerpen (Eifel), Flea markets and garage sales in the neighbouring villages, Nürburgring (25 km) and the cinema in Hillesheim. Further away and recommended for a visit are Cologne (approx. 100km - UNESCO world heritage Cologne cathedral, Rheinauhafen, Schokoladenmuseum, Museum Ludwig, cable car, Cologne Zoo, old town, love locks on the Hohenzollern bridge, Kölsch, Kölner Karneval, dä FC,), Trier (approx. 80km; Germanys oldest city, roman buildings such as the Porta Nigra, Amphitheatre, Kaiser baths; the River Mosel, St. Peter an the Karl Marxs* birthplace) and Brühl (approx. 75 km, palaces Augustusburg & Falkenlust, Theme park Phantasialand)

Holiday destination

In the nearby small town of Hillesheim (8km) - the so called crime capitol of the Vulkaneifel due to famous local crime literature - you’ll find supermarkets, shops and restaurants. A famous point of interest next to our place is the Dreimühlen Waterfall . Located next to the neighboring village of Nohn it is one of the most fascinating waterfalls in the Eifel. Furthermore, we recommend an on-site visit of the hollowed volcano "Arensberg" next to our place (3km). Further attractions nearby are the Church of the Redeemer in Gerolstein and the Eagle and Wolfpark Kasselburg next to Pelm.

Getting there

We recommend motorization, although Stroheich since December 10th, 2023 has access to public transport (bus service No 136 on request). The nearest train station ist Hillesheim-Oberbettingen (12km). From the north: Take the highway No. 1 to Blankenheim. Then drive via Ahrhütte and Nohn to Stroheich. From the south: Via highway A1, take exit "Gerolstein", than via Dreis-Brück and Oberehe to Stroheich. From the (south) east: Via highway A48. At the junction "Vulkaneifel" take A1 northbound. Exit Gerolstein (sea above).

Het huis en vergeet vooral de tuin niet, was heerlijk. We hebben erg genoten van de rust, de grote mooie omheinde tuin en natuurlijk van de Eifel. De gastvrouw was hartelijk en behulpzaam. We kunnen dit huis iedereen die van de Eifel houdt zeer aanbevelen. En voor de nacht, de bedden slapen uitstekend.

Wir waren in diesem schönen Ferienhaus mit drei Generationen und alles hat super geklappt. Das moderne Haus hat reichlich Platz, genügend Schlafmöglichkeiten und war sehr sauber. Frau Himmelreich hatte schon alles liebevoll und sehr persönlich für unsere Familie mit kleinen Kindern hergerichtet einschließlich Willkommensgeschenken. Herzlichen Dank nochmals dafür. Das Haus ist wie im eigenen Zuhause eingerichtet und ausgestattet. So eine vielfältige Ausstattung hatten wir noch in keiner Ferienunterkunft. Klasse und sehr empfehlenswert! Im Ort selbst gibt es nicht viel, dazu muss man ein paar Kilometer fahren, was kein Problem ist. In der Umgebung gibt es reichlich Sehenswertes, auch für kleinere Kinder. Ein Geheimtipp war der Spielplatz und Höhlenrundweg am Mühlenberg in Hohenfels-Essingen. Wir kommen wieder.
