The center of Bergen is just a 15-minute walk away, ideal for an afternoon of shopping in charming boutiques (also open on Sundays) or dining in one of the many excellent restaurants. CineBergen, the picturesque cinema hidden among the trees, is only a ten-minute walk away. In the Netherlands we are used to add subtitles to foreign movies, so the orginal language can still be heard.
Amsterdam is easy to reach for a day trip (about 50 minutes by car or 45 minutes by train from Alkmaar Central Station). You can also explore the beautiful island of Texel.
