Other recreational opportunities
Patresi is ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with abundant fish and other marine life to discover across its underwater landscape.
A channel beside the pier provides access for small boats. In the early morning, you can often watch locals and visitors heading out to fish. It is also the ideal entrance for SUPs.
At the waterfront, you can relax on a sun lounger or enjoy a snack at the little café while watching the spectacular sunset. For a quieter spot closer to nature, explore the rocky stretches of the bay.
Beyond the coast, the island offers plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and mountain biking. Routes range from coastal paths and gentle hillside walks to more demanding hikes, including the climb to Monte Capanne’s rocky summit, over 1,000 metres above sea level.
You can also visit local wineries, which have enjoyed a revival in recent years, or explore nearby towns and villages, where summer brings a lively programme of music, food festivals and other events.
Holiday destination
A private path leads directly from the house to Patresi Bay, where there is a pier, a pebble beach and a large rocky area. The water is exceptionally clear. Children love jumping into the sea from the pier, and a ladder provides easy access to and from the water.
Just above Patresi Mare lies Colle d’Orano, the nearest village for everyday shopping. It is a 15-minute walk uphill along a beautiful path, or around seven minutes by car. Several restaurants in the area enjoy stunning sunset views.
The picturesque village of Marciana is around 15 minutes away by car, on the slopes of Monte Capanne amid shady woods of ancient pines and chestnut trees. This small but lively village hosts cultural events and is home to historic attractions, including the Fortezza Pisana and the Archaeological Museum.
A little further down by the sea, is Marciana Marina, approximately 25 minutes from Patresi. With its charming harbour, varied shops, nightlife and waterfront restaurants, it is worth a visit. Its traditional weekly market takes place every Tuesday.
Heading south along the coast, the landscape changes, with dramatic rock formations shaped by wind and sea and spectacular views across the Tuscan Archipelago towards the islands of Pianosa, Montecristo and Giglio. Along this stretch of coast, you will also find beautiful sandy beaches with clear turquoise waters, including Fetovaia and Cavoli, both around a 20-minute drive away from Patresi.
Getting there
Elba can be reached by car, with a one-hour trip by ferry leaving from Piombino on the mainland and arriving at Portoferraio. Ferries leave Piombino every half hour; booking is strongly recommended in high season and week-ends.
From Portoferraio you will drive to Patresi in less than an hour. Detailed instructions to reach the House will be provided.
There is also a small airport near Marina di Campo, at about 35 minutes’ drive from Patresi. Tourists arriving by plane can arrange car rental at the airport.

The house is situated in a calm and nice area very close to the sea. You need a car to go there and you will find one of the best places of the island. The clean appartement is fully equiped, you will find everything needed for cooking and relaxing. Like everywhere on the island you have to think about the internet beforehand in case you plan to work online. The landlord is very friendly and helpful at any time.
